I'm Shane Rienks, an industrial designer who turns ambitious ideas into beautiful, functional prototypes.


I work across the full spectrum of a physical product — industrial design, CAD, prototyping, fabrication, composites, and hands-on execution — and I do my best work on problems that are too early, too unconventional, or too multidisciplinary for a specialist.


My approach is built around speed, adaptability, and pragmatic problem solving. I move between the big picture and the small details: systems-thinking, fast prototypes, and practical design decisions. I'm comfortable working alongside engineers, founders, and other designers, and I like owning the details that make a product real.


Since 2020 I've sharpened my skillset through my own practice, Rienks Labs — a workshop full of fabrication equipment, 3D printers, sketchboards, and prototypes, where I take projects from rough concept to working hardware. It's how I've stayed hands-on across every part of the process instead of specializing into one narrow lane.


That work spans client jobs and my own projects, including VTOLs (flying cars) and advanced composites, startup products, experimental vehicles, energy hardware, and patent-pending projects. Across all of it, I've come to believe that modern design takes more than narrow specialization. The best products come from people who can think across disciplines and build what they imagine.

I built my foundation in the high-end custom automotive industry — legacy sheet metal shaping, carbon fiber production, fabrication, and prototyping — before I ever set foot in design school. That hands-on experience shaped how I approach every project: make it real, test it, learn from it, and improve it.


My path wasn't a traditional academic one. It started with blue-collar apprenticeships, shop time, and years learning from craftspeople, builders, designers, and fabricators who were masters of their fields. A college design education later added structure and vocabulary to that foundation, but the practical mindset came first.


Now 28, I have ten years of professional experience spanning multi-million-dollar automotive projects, advanced hardware development, conceptual design, CAD, fabrication, composites, prototyping, marketing, project management, and design leadership.


I've led design work for LEO Flight's flying car program, collaborated on projects with Salaff Automotive and Fiber Forged Composites, and developed trademarked and patented products through my own projects — Kove Cutlery, RealPodRacer, and Zoomie Labs.
